Meryl Streep and George Clooney are leading the charge, according to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, a charity associated with the actors’ union that provides financial assistance to workaday performers. They each donated $1 million, and then began lobbying their fellow A-listers.

Large donations have poured in from celebrities like Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts and Oprah Winfrey.
